Junior FIRST LEGO League

Junior FIRST LEGO League is part of the Michigan FIRST family of programs geared for students in kindergarden through 3rd grade. It is a partnership between the LEGO Group and FIRST committed to igniting creativity and imagination of young children.

In August, FIRST releases a Challenge which relates to a real-world issue. Each challenge has two parts: The Show Me Poster and The Model. Teams of 2-6 children, guides by coaches and mentors, design and build a model using LEGO elements and incorporate simple machines and movement into their creations. They illustrate their research and team journey through their Show Me Poster. Teams may then choose to attend an official event hosted by selected FIRST Michigan groups.

The Challenge is “what we do”, while the Core Values are “how we do it”. The Jr.FLL Core Values are the cornerstones of the Jr.FLL program. Participants learn that teamwork and the spirit of Gracious Professionalism (helpfulness, kindness, respect, and sharing) are paramount. Where pride in their own work and accomplishments is balanced with a mutual sharing and acceptance of others experiences and ideas. And lastly, where everyone is a WINNER and we have FUN!

Each year FIRST releases a Challenge that fosters the creativity and imagination in young children. With emphasis on the exploration of math, science, technology, and engineering it provides children with a greater appreciation of the world in which they live.
